Outrage over video showing squirrel being pepper-sprayed
Posted by Higgs Raccoon on Wed 13 Apr 2011 - 02:28Police were called to Kimbrough Middle School in Mesquite, Texas, after a squirrel was seen behaving erratically. The concern was that this can be a sign of rabies.
As a baby squirrel hopped towards a policeman in the grounds of a school, he took out his pepper spray, apparently to defend himself against the potentially infected animal. As school children pleaded with the officer not to harm the creature, the squirrel advanced and the man reacted by spraying it. The squirrel became disorientated and started writhing on the ground.
A Mesquite Animal Control officer was called and cleaned the spray off the squirrel. After being given a satisfactory bill of health, it was released back into the wild.
A video recording of the pepper-spraying incident, made by students, generated outrage after it was posting on YouTube. Having received over 700,000 views in one week, comments on the video are split between those condemning the officer's actions as heavy-handed, and those sympathising with his need to maintain personal safety in the face of a possibly rabid animal.
Alan T. Panda withdraws guilty pleas
Posted by Higgs Raccoon on Sun 20 Feb 2011 - 20:51Alan Berlin, better known in the furry fandom as Alan T. Panda, has withdrawn his guilty pleas in relation to charges that he sexually propositioned a 15-year-old boy online.
Berlin came to the attention of the media in May 2009, when he was first arrested for unlawful contact with a minor. According to investigators, Berlin, a resident of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, had been in communication with the teen for several weeks and had proposed travelling to the boy's home to have sex in the backyard, and in a shed on his parents' property.
In the furry fandom, Berlin was a fursuiter, babyfur, and "daddyfur/caretaker with a cub side". The media noted Berlin's connection to the fandom, as investigators believed that he and the boy had met on a furry internet site. When Berlin's home was searched, wolf and cat-like costumes were found, and it was alleged that Berlin had discussed dressing up in animal costumes as part of having sex with the boy.
Does the "Cartoon Law" really affect furries?
Posted by The Chained Wolf on Wed 7 Apr 2010 - 03:51Today FurteanTimes.com reported that a new law just pasted by the British government will make paedophilic depictions of furry pornographic illegal. But does it really do this?
The law in question is the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 and the bit covering this new law is Sections 62 to 68. Now, it has been reported by some sources, such as The Register and FurteanTimes.com that this law will ban depictions of under-age children and people, which will be a worry to some anime/manga fans.
However, what is actually meant be "people" and "children"?
Second-hand fursuit sold for $7000
Posted by GreenReaper on Wed 15 Sep 2010 - 06:07
If you thought $1600 for an inflatable husky was excessive, consider this pre-owned MixedCandy German Shepherd, auctioned last week for $7000. [tip: sardognsca/fursuitlounge]
The suit was the subject of a five-way bidding war throughout Saturday before the winner swept in with their last-minute bid.
MixedCandy is well-known for expensive wolves and canines, but this price is more commonly associated with a new custom suit — or rather, two of them.
Southeast Missouri's Capaha Arrow interviews student furs
Posted by GreenReaper on Thu 6 May 2010 - 14:34SEMO's Capaha Arrow interviews two local furs: Island (owner of Balubeere) and Lupercus.
Balubeere was spotted by student reporters while debating Brother Jed, a local preacher who comes to the university to – in Island's words – "tell everyone they're going to hell."
Watch: Blaubeere invades the cafeteria, argues with his owner and sings for his creator.

Posted by Procyon on Sat 26 Mar 2005 - 05:51A fairly negative piece that describes furry as a "fetish" and focuses on one particular (fairly extreme) individual and his difficulties with others on campus. Contains interviews with 'experts' who call furry an "alternative way to manifest... sexual preference" and an "attention-grabbing mechanism". Published Thursday in "The Battallion".
