Capital FurCon, an upcoming furry convention on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., moved its dates up a weekend due to coinciding with a conservative and Christian broadcaster conference at the same venue, the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, Flayrah has learned.

Originally scheduled for February 25–28, 2027, the convention made an announcement earlier this month that it would be moved to February 18–21, one week earlier. The note, made on July 2nd, stated that it was “Due to an error made by our hotel partner”. “This change became necessary due to the Gaylord’s sales team inadvertently double-booking our event space,” it read.

The rooms that the furry convention had contracted were not rented out to another event at the same time in a booking mishap, but rather the Gaylord is to be the venue for the National Religious Broadcasters’ 2027 International Christian Media Convention. Though occupying a different area, it partially overlapped with Capital FurCon’s original dates. The ICMC is scheduled for the last Tuesday through Friday in February; Capital FurCon had the last Thursday through Sunday.

Last week, the convention made a blog post alluding to this. The “original dates overlapped with an event that was not ideal for both events and our event's attendees.” This was attributed to “a mistake on the Hotel's side.” The event? ICMC 2027, McChaffee, the convention chair, confirmed to Flayrah.

Late Friday afternoon, a few dozen furries came down to National Harbor, Maryland, for the first in-person event hosted by Capital FurCon, an upcoming 21+ furry convention set to have its inaugural weekend in February. At a karaoke and bar called Live-K, the free, four-hour event was hosted in conjunction with DC Fur Meet, which hosts monthly bar nights in Washington, D.C.

The plaza outside Live-K was awash in Juneteenth celebration. Inside, outnumbering casual patrons enjoying a birthday or coming in from the heat, local furries in and out of fursuit drank and danced. Being a karaoke establishment, people could queue songs to sing on the main stage, before the lineup of DJs performed. There were also small side rooms, where people could either stash their bags or sing karaoke in a more secluded space for the whole event. DJs HanIsAlive, Novocanine, and KaiTo performed sets on the main stage through the latter half of the event.

The bar apparently gave happy hour pricing, though this reporter found himself being charged almost $17 for an alcoholic slushie. This paled in comparison to the $50 parking fee he found himself having to pay. (He should have parked in a different garage, and should have asked for budget drinks.)

A surprise came to New York City furs at the end of April when word spread of a new convention this November in their area that nobody had heard of: New Anthrodam. Without an official announcement, nor having been established in conjunction with the local furry organizations, people were left in the dark as to who was running it. New Anthrodam, to be held in downtown Brooklyn the weekend before Thanksgiving, caught even the organizers of local events off guard when knowledge of it went around.

On April 3rd, a Bluesky account bearing the name was created and made its first post: “Coming soon!” but no attention was given until awareness of it arrived suddenly on the 24th, during Furgeddaboutit. The website the account linked to—registered last August, according to a WHOIS query—consists of a logo, dates and venue, two social media links, a link to sign up to a mailing list, and a vector city skyline (with windows that light up randomly on each visit). No information on what it is about or how to register are provided for a convention less than six months out. So, who runs it?

In the last weekend of April, Furgeddaboutit’s second year hosted over a thousand attendees and raised $11,828.31 for charity. For the New Jersey convention, this year’s theme was “Don’t You FURGeddabout Me: All About the 80s!”. From Friday to Sunday, songs from the decade emanated from the ballroom, a few furs dressed in their best 80s fashion, and several took photos with small sets in the hallway, themed on the decade.

Furgeddaboutit was originally established to spite another furry convention, Garden State Fur The Weekend, or GSFTW, for its unscrupulous ties with an infamous furry group that was responsible for ending Rocky Mountain Fur Con in 2017. In turn Furgeddaboutit drew prospective attendees away from it by overlapping on the same days. GSFTW suffered a large blow from what became a drain of defectors, and as of writing is seemingly defunct. There has been no official talk of a 2026 convention for Garden State beside what appears to be in the last public communication, on Twitter in mid-June of last year, fielding suggestions on a theme. GSFTW did not respond to a request for comment.

Fur the ‘More 2026: Homecoming drew furs from the Mid-Atlantic back to its birthplace of Baltimore, Maryland, last weekend. Overlapping with Texas Furry Fiesta, the convention was held from March 27 to 29 for a short, three-day convention. 1,917—nearly two thousand people—showed up, according to the convention.

Founded in 2012 with its inaugural event in taking place in 2013, Fur the ‘More began in the Hunt Valley suburb of Baltimore, and moved to venues in northern Virginia from 2015 to 2025. (A virtual convention was held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, like nearly every furry convention that year.) "As attendance grew, the convention quickly became too large for its original hotel, while still being too new to attract bids from other Baltimore-area venues," Kitra told Flayrah in an email.

On February 24th, the North Carolina based furry convention Bewhiskered announced that furry YouTube content creator Beta Eta Delota would no longer be present as a Guest of Honor for their 2026 gathering.

We want to let you know that Beta Eta Delota will not be appearing as a Guest of Honor this year at Bewhiskered 2026. This decision was not made lightly and was made in coordination with Beta to ensure our ability to host a smooth and safe convention.

As many of you know, Beta has been the subject of a harassment campaign for the last several months. That campaign has unfortunately impacted us as well and generated more than one safety concern for the convention. The unfortunate end result, that we both agree on, is that if Beta were to attend, we are unsure we could offer him the quality experience that a Guest of Honor deserves and would have very real safety concerns to prepare for.

We have been and will continue to be a kink-friendly organization and will always do our best to uphold our values. This will be reflected by the panels we select, the dealers we invite, and more. - North Carolina Anthro Society

This announcement comes in the midst of an ongoing controversy in furry content creator spaces revolving around anti-ABDL furries from TikTok and pro-kink furries from YouTube, which has now bled into real world consequences at physical gatherings.

When Anthro New England had its fourth year in the Westin Boston Seaport Hotel last month, it was obvious to attendees that it had outgrown the space that it occupies. When moving into the Westin in 2023, after being in the Boston Park Plaza hotel for a few years, there were 3,548 attendees. By 2026 they have more than doubled that, to 7,284. All the event space in the Westin had already been contracted out in 2023, and there isn’t additional space to grow in the hotel. Yet the convention needs more of it.

At the end of closing ceremonies, the convention hinted at expansion, telling attendees to wait for an announcement later in the year. Flayrah has been given exclusive information, in a series of interviews, on the plans the convention has for the future of the convention. While not finalized, it gives a glimpse into negotiations and plans often kept hidden from public view by organizers.

Boston saw thousands of furs congregate earlier this month, some donning cowboy hats, others putting on cowboy boots and throwing on ponchos. Anthro New England 2026: It’s a Western! brought a massive 7,284 attendees to the convention this year, pushing the square footage to its limit and outside the range of comfortable.

Masking requirements were relaxed this year. Only the dealer’s den, art show room, and gaming rooms were masks mandatory. In past years, the policy was that all convention spaces required a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne diseases. Like last year, though, face masks were given out at the safety office, and Covid Safe Furs distributed N95 masks and tests on Thursday for those needing them.

ANE was once again bookended by the Hanover Insurance Group’s annual ‘Ignite’ conference and Mathworks’ Sales Kickoff. On Thursday, I spoke to a Hanover employee named Nancy, who noted that more furries were arriving on Wednesday evening as compared to last year, an indication that the convention was growing massively.
