French comic reviews: 'Fang' and 'Blacksad Stories'
Posted by dronon on Sun 16 Aug 2026 - 00:06
Fang is a comic published in France, however the writer is an American named Joe Kelly, and the artist is a French-Canadian named Niko Henrichon. Both have occasionally veered into talking animals; Kelly with Bad Dog and Henrichon with Pride of Baghdad.
Fang is an ongoing story published by Les Humanoïdes Associés. The first issue, Chasseuse de démons (Demon huntress) appeared in 2021, and the second issue, À la poursuite d'Aldafaor (In pursuit of Aldafaor) came out in 2025.
Set in a medieval fantasy setting that combines European and Chinese cultural motifs, the land is occupied by both humans and animal people of various species. Demonic creatures are apparently rampant, making pacts with people to grant them power, or possessing them to cause trouble.

Fursona Pins protects the word fursona from being trademarked by non-furry company
Posted by Sonious on Sun 2 Aug 2026 - 21:11On July 18th, 2026 a rejection by the United States Patent and Trademark Office was making its rounds on social media. In it, the office states that the individual could not trademark the word Fursona in relation to their company, with the primary reason being that it was too similar of a trademark to one already created for the company of “Fursona Pins”. The applicant has been trying to register this since November, 13th of 2025.
A shared document of this rejection was clearly not the first rejection to registration, but in response to counter arguments made by the applicant to a previous rejection. The three primary arguments were made by the person trying to register Fursona as a trademark for their business:
- They are not trying to register Fursona Pins, just Fursonas.
- They are trying to make a robe company not a pin company
- The word is not related to the commons word of “fursona” used by the furry fandom
The USPTO’s response counters each of these arguments and their viability, and in the end sustains its prior rejection of the trademark request.

Originally scheduled for February 25–28, 2027, the convention made an announcement earlier this month that it would be moved to February 18–21, one week earlier. The note, made on July 2nd, stated that it was “Due to an error made by our hotel partner”. “This change became necessary due to the Gaylord’s sales team inadvertently double-booking our event space,” it read.
The rooms that the furry convention had contracted were not rented out to another event at the same time in a booking mishap, but rather the Gaylord is to be the venue for the National Religious Broadcasters’ 2027 International Christian Media Convention. Though occupying a different area, it partially overlapped with Capital FurCon’s original dates. The ICMC is scheduled for the last Tuesday through Friday in February; Capital FurCon had the last Thursday through Sunday.
Last week, the convention made a blog post alluding to this. The “original dates overlapped with an event that was not ideal for both events and our event's attendees.” This was attributed to “a mistake on the Hotel's side.” The event? ICMC 2027, McChaffee, the convention chair, confirmed to Flayrah.
Where furries were at for pride this year
Posted by EberraWolf on Mon 20 Jul 2026 - 16:43Across the world, furries celebrated Pride Month by marching with their local furry communities in pride parades. From Portland, Maine, to Seattle, Washington, furries showed up, donning their fursuits in the summer heat. Some tempted heatstroke wearing their full fursuit. With a fandom that had an explosion of growth during the Covid pandemic, more furries are participating now in local groups than ever before.
Most furries openly identify themselves as LGBTQ+ to an overwhelming degree, according to data from Furscience, an organization that does research in and on the furry fandom, with surveys including questions on sex and gender self-identification. One survey from earlier this year asked 869 furries online and at three conventions a slew of questions, including the self-identifications.
The results—not yet published but shared with Flayrah—show that 86.3% of furries are, in some form or another, LGBTQ+. In the survey, a mere 14.9% of respondents identified their sexuality as heterosexual, making them a minority in the fandom. Additionally, 73.2% and 9.6% of respondents identified as cisgender men and women, respectively. (The survey allowed for respondents to select multiple options, and participants could have reported, for example, to be both a trans man and a cis man.)
At the pride parades this year, even those who are allies participated. This is a list of them in which a furry organization participated in for June 2026, listed alphabetically by city. Organizers were asked about being in the parade, and their responses are included if they responded. Some organizations marched in two parades, and both are listed. Let us know if we’ve missed anything, and we’ll update this article.
New Tale Spin comic series to be released by Dynamite Digital
Posted by Sonious on Sat 18 Jul 2026 - 14:25
Taking aim at nostalgia of an era of cartoons sitcoms long past, Dynamite Publishing is releasing a new comic series based on the 1990s Disney Franchise of Tail Spin. The story of this series starts as Baloo's services are called to help a new citizen get to the home town of Cape Suzette, but face opposition along the way headed by Don Karnage's band of pirates.
They are adding this to a catalog of other such comics that are also based on sitcom cartoons from the era such as Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, and The Lion King.

As the city of Pittsburgh readied itself to welcome back Anthrocon, a small art gallery on Penn Avenue had viewers asking, “Why do they love furry?”
From June 5th to July 19th, nonprofit artist residency and gallery Bunker Projects hosted their second monumental furry art exhibition I LOVE FURRY. The gallery was created by Portland-based artist Tommy Bruce and involved asking furries in the fandom to submit photos, artwork, and stories about what they love about the community.
Bruce has been making art about the furry community and furry identity since 2010, and this is the second time his furry artwork has been featured in Bunker projects. Last year, he was featured among 60 other furry artists in an exhibit called “Room Party,” the first ever large-scale group exhibit of contemporary furry art. “Room Party” was featured at Bunker Projects last year from June 6th to July 20th, 2025, also meant to coincide with Anthrocon.
Anthrocon brings the heat: 20 years in the steel city!

In 2006, the Anthrocon Board of Directors voted to move the convention from Philadelphia to the David Lawrence convention center and Westin in Pittsburgh. This was the start of a relationship that culminated in twenty thousand attendees celebrating 20 years of Anthrocon.
Anthrocon took place in Pittsburgh from July 2nd to July 5th with the theme of “Critters, Cryptids, and Curses,” while also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the convention taking place in the steel city. To honor this occasion, Pittsburgh mayor Corey O’Conner came to the organizers of the convention to declare the day “Anthrocon Day.” This was an unexpected gift to the convention, which involved visiting the organizers on July 1st, and the county executive Sara Innamorato congratulating the convention for contributing 169 million dollars into the Pittsburgh economy for the past 20 years.
For 20 years Anthrocon has had a special relation with its host city as it is symbiotic: Anthrocon gets to call the city its host while the city of Pittsburgh generates revenue from attendees.
FurryMUCK, still going!
Posted by CopperCheetah on Sun 12 Jul 2026 - 18:26Following the unfortunate passing of Tori "Tugrik" Amundson, the server FurryMUCK was running upon needed to be retired. I am very appreciative and grateful that Tugrik's friends and next-of-kin have been keeping the server up and available to this point.
Finally, we've migrated FurryMUCK to a new server. In doing so, we've made several key improvements, including using the most recent copy of the underlying server code (Fuzzball v7.2) as well as updated SSL libraries. DNS has been updated so people can still use the known hostname to connect:
muck.furrymuck.com, port 8888 for basic access
muck.furrymuck.com, port 8899 for secure access
This has also meant moving the webserver FurryMUCK maintains to have online information. That is also at https://muck.furrymuck.com.
Going forward, status updates about the MUCK will be posted on the new FM-status account.
Thank you, for thirty-five years of furry fandom. I hope to keep it going for more.
